Is it called an Optispark or distributor cap?? I never done this before and i dont want to mess it up lol, do i need any special tools?i know you have to take off the water pump is that all you have to do to get to the cap? You will need a deep external Torx (E4) socket to remove the screws that hold the cap on the body. If you don't have the E4 socket, you can use the head of a T15 Torx screw as a socket.

The easiest way that I have found to get the optispark out is to remove the water pump, the belt tensioner (makes getting the wires off easier), the crank pulley, and the fan shroud. You can get away with just moving the fan shroud around, but I just pull it out. If you don't have the socket for the bolts on the opti cap, you can use one of the screws out of the throttle body top plate and a set of vice grips to get them out, but you can pretty much plan on stripping the TB bolt if you do it that way...

That's exactly what I did.

Your going to need a 3 arm puller to get the pulley off (see here http://shbox.com/1/pull_pulley.jpg). The pulley has a yellow mark on the outside (which is visible in the photo) and the crank hub has a mark on the inside (you can kinda see it here, upper right http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/perform...CATID=895.html). Line the two up and your good. With a T15 torx screw, wing nut, lock washer and nut to lock the wing nut in place, you can make an opti cap tool for cheap.

i have done some crap wrong!! Umm first i used a crow bar and stopped the belts from turning grabbed a ratchet and started turning the bolt in the middle than i pryde () the circle out lol. Than i took a screw from the throttle plate and got the 3 screws off the dis.cap and the fourth one didnt come off so i pryed that out too!!!! and it cracked!!!! so i got off the broken parts and now im attempting to take the rotor off. Is there a specific way on putting it back on?? Oh ya the base distributor is a little chipped at the bottom will this affect it?? im working on all this in the dark right now 12:17 Am lol and i have started since 3 PM! crazzzy. so yesss did i do all this wrong???
