My car bogs down really bad... know what it could be?

In the hotter parts of the day, when I hit the gas, my car bogs down and then finally catches and goes... Know what this could be?

Thanks
Sarah

Any other symptoms? Poor gas mileage? misfiring or anything? A really clogged air filter can kill performance. If you have not already done so, probably do a basic tuneup and then look to diagnose if the problem persists.

I changed the fuel filter, cleaned the air filter, spark plugs are pretty new... Wires... eh never changed those... ummm. Doesn't misfire, no detonation, it's only when I get on it kinda hard.

We have a possibilty... let me know what you think of this.

I have a stock MAF but it was ported and polished by a friend. Do you think that because it's a stock sensor reading the same volts but receiving more air would cause it to send a faulty signal to the PCM? Would this cause it to not spit enough fuel when I get on it? It's just an idea that someone else gave me.

The catalytic converters over time will clog up with the crap the motor burns off, eventually they become so clogged they have an adverse affect on daily driving and when you go to romp on it it'll bog...

Sounds like either a restriction if it only happens when puncing it (like the air filter and clogged cat ideas) or the ignition. The bigger the combustion chamber charge, the harder it is to light off. Are the plugs gapped correctly? how is the rest of the ignition?

Yeah the plugs are gapped correctly and the ignition is fine. I'm going to run on this cat idea and go check it out. I'll let you guys know if it's good or not.

Thanks!

I KNOW WHAT IT IS.....it's your waterpump leaking a very tiny bit of water, and it dropped to you opti. change the following

- fuel filter
- air filter
- CAT ($60-70 from pepboys)
- water pump ($50 from autozone)
- and if you have an extra $299, get a new opti
- get manual fan switch or reprogram your temp. fans

my would bogged real bad when it was hot, but not anymore. i changed all of the above. no more problem. all of the above will solve your problem GUARANTEED.

well I checked the cat and since it's welded on one side i could only check the one side. The honecomb stuff looked to be intact and all. Or should I take it down to midas and have it checked there?

I never thought about my Opti spark going bed. Is this a symptom? Cause I did have my water pump go nad a while back but I replaced that and the problem has been there before the water pump.

Where is the opti spark thing at and what does it look like. Is it my distributor? Or something different?

What do you guys think about the MAF idea?

Thanks a lot guys.

I thought the EGR didn't operate under hard throttle. I thought it was only on at part throttle. Maybe I heard wrong.

Then again I guess that could be the problem is that it's always on or something. But wouldn't that throw a code? I haven't thrown any codes yet. I even had it scanned with a snap on scanner just to make sure my CEL was working. No codes though
