I decided to post this here as I thought the LT1 crowd might know a bit more about the hot cam than some others. Basically, I have found that I can get an LT4 hot cam reasonably cheap either used or new. The Comp XR270 is much more expensive and harder to find used.

I figured these two cams would be within 5-10 horsepower of each other in Desktop Dyno. Plugging the two cams in, I came up with the following numbers:

LT4 Hot Cam:


XR270:


Now I am not running EFI, I am putting this cam in a 350 with Vortec heads and 9.5:1 with a 650 double pumper. If the difference is 10 horsepower and 10 ft lbs, I could care less about spending the extra $$$ getting the comp cam. It appears that the XR270 in desktop dyno is making an extra 35 horsepower and 40+ ft lbs, that is a HUGE difference which is why I don't think that's right. I thought I would ask the knowledgeable folks here to double check though .
