lt1 to ls1 conversion

hey i was wondering how hard it would be if its posiible to convert a 95 lt1 to an ls1? i have heard from a few people that you can put ls1 head and intake on an lt1 block and gain alot of hp and tq. i was wondering how hard the swap would be because i have a blown head gasket and i want more hp. i was thinkin bout a 383 swap or entire ls1 swap but i dont have that much money. any advise is welcomed. thanx

Should lead you in the right direction if you want to swap over to LS1. Though if your tight on money i would suggest adding a nice H/C package to your LT1.

No you can not put ls1 heads on a lt1 block. The bolt pattern and bores are different. Also LT1 heads are reverse cooling and LS1 heads are not. If you want to add power I would suggest heading over to Llyod Elliots site, he can lead you in the right direction for a reasonable cost. http://www.elliottsportworks.com/lt1.html

Keep in mind swapping from a 1995 LT1 to a 98+ LS1 is going to be a lot different than the 1997 LT1 to 98+ LS1 swap due to the major wiring differences from 1995 to 98+. 1997 is at least OBD2.

There is very little that is the same on the LT1 vs. LS1. No bolt on parts interchange. They are completely different engines.

As long as your 383 is derived from an LT1, it is the same as rebuilding your LT1. Same amount of "pain".

Fix the head gaskets and call it a day.

Ideally, now would be the time to do a heads and cam swap, but that's going to cost you quite a bit considering you don't have the supporting mods.

A new top end gasket set would be needed. It sounds like you are unfamiliar with this so I would suggest you have a professional do the work for you.

Bolt ons to produce the best power would be cai with better flowing elbow, rear end gears, torque converter, ported heads and intake w/ 1.6 roller rockers and all the accessories (lifters, pushrods and guide plates), 58 mm throttle body, headers and 2.5" or 3" exhaust and a good tune. I would also look into a cam, (they can be put in without removing the engine) and if the heads are off this would be the perfect time to install one. This will produce 400 to 400+ rwhp with a stock bottom end. You can mix and match these parts anyway you want.

Freebies would be descreened maf ends, tb bypass, etc. etc.

How else is he going to learn? Gotta get in there and get your hands dirty.

Actually, they should be matched with each other to maximize overall performance.

The MAF screen performs an important task in smoothing the air over the MAF sensor. This has been the subject of much debate and the overall conclusion is to keep it there, as designed.
BIGT90, the first thing you should do is come up with a budget. How much are you willing to spend on upgrades? Plan on a 10% cost overrun due to parts you failed to take into consideration. Then the forum can advise you better on how to allocate the funds.
I agree that having the heads off would be an ideal time to do a heads/cam upgrade, but they are not cheap (for quality products, of course).

It's not that I have no faith in him doing the work. Just did not want to see something go wrong over such an easy fix. And by mix and match obviously when you do the heads you buy all the parts for the heads. The same goes for exhaust, you don't buy headers without the exhaust it's self and so on and so on. And my maf is descreened and I have had no problems with my car, so I recommend it.

This is why I am about to the point of being done posting on this site. Because every time you lend advice there is always someone to say you are wrong and they are right. Just because things don't work out for everyone does not mean you have to condemned them. It is like this for just about every thread on here. Sorry to mess with your thread. Good luck.
