In a comparison to both heads do the vortec outflow our Lt1
heads?? Or are both heads heads equal in flow???

I have been reading the vortec's are awesome for perfromace use.

I believe they flow similar #'s in stock form, but are iron castings.

There's no benefit over what we currently have.

Vortecs arent so much "awesome" as much as they are just a good value. The vortec head gives good performance potential at a very competitive price. Vortec's were modeled after lessons learned during the development of the LT1 head.

In stock form the LT1 head is superior... not only is the LT1 lighter being aluminum, but the stock Vortec head can only take .420 lift in stock form. You can get aluminum vortecs, as can you get modded vortecs that take more lift, but then of course your price goes up. Once you start modding them, I am willing to bet that both heads will max out around the same range.

It doesnt really matter too much for our cars though... you cant put a Votec head on your LT1, and can't put a LT1 head on a Gen I smallblock.

They are. For people with old style heads.

It's a little difficult for you younger folks to get a real feel for how far heads have come in the last 20 years. As late as the mid-late 80's, a set of 2.02/1.60 Angle Plug heads were still a big deal and undercut valve stems were practically black magic.

You might wanna do some research on Fast Burn heads. They were based off of the Vortec design. One of the main reasons, (aside from them not being reverse cooled), that a Vortec head will not fit an LT1 is that the bolt holes for the intake mating flange are drilled at both a different angle and higher up in the mating surface. The Fast Burns however are drilled for both the Vortech and standard SBC intake pattern. If a guy were ambitious enough, he could convert some Fast Burn heads to reverse cooling, and then maybe run either a Vortec or raised runner Bowtie single plane intake. (LT4 would work too if you did a conversion.)

The Fastburns are a good head but you can buy better for less money. BTW those numbers you got are not real Fastburn numbers. Those are from a prototype head. They don't flow nearly that much in stock form. You can go here and look up the Fastburns tested by Salee Chevrolet. There is a comparison of the old FB's to the new ones. It's at the bottom of the page.

What are you building? The Vortecs with a little exhaust work may be suitable for your application. They remind me of the old Dart II's. Decent intake numbers but the exhaust flow needs some attention.
