LT1 head coolant nipple question

LT1 head coolant nipple question
I have a set of LT1 heads here (I don't have an LT1, own an '88 TA), and I'm trying to figure out some coolant stuff. I see there is a coolant port on both the front and back of each head, and one one each is blocked off with a plug.
Are these the coolant lines that go to the radiator? The holes seem awfully small to me compared to the ones on my car (coolant exits through the intake though). What size coolant fittings go to the heads on the LT1? I was told to bore these to fit 3/4" nipples and hoses, but I think the only reason my car has such big fittings is because it has iron heads. The aluminum heads dissipate heat better and thus need less cooling capacity? The smaller (stock on LT1) coolant ports will make running hoses a bit easier for me as well.

Re: LT1 head coolant nipple question
Kinda... what size fittings do I need to buy for that, and are those the only return lines to the radiator from the motor itself (not counting heater stuff)? I need to know if I have to enlarge them to allow coolant to flow out. I'm thinking I don't, but I've had some say I do.
