LT1 Cam timing questions

Ok here's the deal!!

Im waste deep in an LT1 Cam install project...
got the Opti off and the timing chain cover and pulled the #1 spark plug and started turing the engine over by hand, when both valves are closed and the piston is forcing hella air out the spark plug hole and the crank gear dot is at noon the cam gear is pointing at noon as well!!! WTF???? i just pulled this car apart and found it like this, with the dots lined up its on the overlap of #1 cyl, ex valve just closing the intake just opening....

This is on the stock cam mind you!! i never even had the cam sproket off yet.

Now i never drove this car my self before taking it apart but i did start it up and move it around and it ran smooth...

The timing chain wasnt that loose, not enough to skip IMO... but why would it be 180 degrees off from anything else ive ever seen???

Would it even run that way and run decent for the most part??

The only thing ican think of if some one else was in this thing befoore me and messed it up??

Please let know thoughts on this or past experiences...

You're okay.

#1 TDC

Crank gear at noon and cam gear at 6 = #6 TDC

Both pistons have the same travel.

Cam gear is at 6 and crank at 12? That's #6 TDC, both will be at the top of their travel.
