Intermittent accessory power issue

When I get into the car after a while of it sitting, I put the key in, move it to accessory position, the power to all the accessory position stuff doesn't come on. I have to jiggle the key cylinder back and forth for a while for it to come on and stay on. Usually
only happens in the beginning and it seems fine afterwards, but problem comes keeping coming back after a few days of the car sitting. Do I need a new ignition key cylinder?

Re: Intermittent accessory power issue

The cylinder itself just moves a rod that goes through your steering column to your ignition switch on the base of your steering column. That is where all power runs through when you turn your key cylinder. The cylinder itself doesn't activate the accessories except though a mechanical means. I would suspect the problem being down there. Could be build of some residue between the connections.

Shoebox has some usefull info... mainly in the first paragraph.

4th Gen F-body Ignition Switch Replacement

This wiring diagram will help you track the problem. 96 and 97 are the same:
