It is pretty easy to screw up on the line with a 'vette. The independent rear suspension has a real tendency towards wheel hop on hard acceleration. It can be overcome with a softer launch but leads to a slower 60-ft time...
My wife has a '99 vette with 420 rear wheel horsepower and at 3103 pounds is about 400 pounds lighter than mine. My car has 410 at the wheels. I routinely get a quicker 60-ft and 1/8-mile times but the lighter weight and extra power has the vette finish the quarter first with both a lower ET an higher trap speed.
Run the guy with the vette. He'll probably beat you but it will certainly be fun to find out if he can drive it...

You have to remember that there is always somebody faster.Just do what your time and budget will alow. And Remember that this is a hobby.and a source of enjoyment.
