HTC coating on MAC Headers any good??
What is HTC coating that I see on MAC headers?? I just bought a MAC offroad pipe and it looks like the same stuff they put on their shorty headers. Its rough and looks like silver paint. How does this coating hold up?? Does it flake or rust through??

i just ordered MAC headers from ls1speed.com. I would HIGHLY suggest getting them ceramic coated. I have heard that the cheap coating that comes on them doesnt hold up. Better be safe than sorry!

not THAT bad actually theyve been on my car for a year now, and 95% of the coating is still there. just a bit of surface rust on a part of my y-pipe and thats it. if you dont have the funds right away to get them coated, i wouldnt worry too much about it. i think it was Brent94Z who had them on his car for 6 years or something, with the HTC crap. i dont htink im gonna keep them that long anyway, but if i feel like it i might get them coated sometime, just not really a priority HTH

For the price of the headers, I have to think that the ridiculous cost of coating is not worth it.... I paid $300 for my headers (classifieds, not a retailer), so coating is almost the entire cost I paid! I can't justify that...
If they get surface rust in 3 to 4 years, you can pull them off and have them coated. They have to blast them before the coat them anyway (to get the factory paint off), so it's not gonna cost you any more, IMO....
Now, keep in mind, my car's not a daily driver... it rarely sees rain or wet roads and it doesn't snow here, so we have NO salt whatsoever, so mine will probably last more than say someone up north who lives in rust-land.

Not trying to take over this thread, but I just wanted to say I've been up to Regina. It was a few years ago, but that city kicks ***!

I bought MAC headers back in 1997 and installed them. Just the crappy factory coating. Used them until last year and sold them. They worked great for me and continue to work just fine for the guy I sold them to. A contributing factor to my luck with the factory coating is that I live in Florida... no salty roads!
Here is a picture of them the day I took them out of the car...

Not too bad. However, I do recommend if you have the extra funds to just get them coated.

5 years and they still look great!! I am in Louisiana so I guess I can expect the same type of corrosion from them. Thanks for the pic Brent.
