what can cause the tranny solenoid to burn/fail?? no 3rd & 4th gear..

hi guys, this problems nearly left me stranded on my way to the airport to pick up my mom. suddenly i have no 3rd and 4th gear. i got my tranny rebuild about 5-6K miles ago. and since then, this happened twice already. the first time it happened, i took it back, and the builder said that it was the solenoids, now it is happening again, i will take it back over there on monday, but i'm just curious what can be the cause of this.....how come this problem keep happening, i'm getting sick of not having 3rd and 4th. thanks guys

Here is a long shot. Check under your hood at night. See if your wires are arcing sending high voltage where it shouldn't be.

I had killed 2 ICM's, replaced a good opti, and dusted the tranny solenoid all because of a crappy set of new Taylor wires.

3/4 burn up

3/4 clutch/steal burnup is a VERY VERY commen problem with the 4L60E trans.

Bad Wires and low fuild are issues to look for but are not related!

and what's the cause to the fried clutch pack??
The problem is simple the OEM PCM program does not put enough 3/4 apply pressure on low TPS / hi load situations.

The Trans Go HD kit is apart of the fix for this.
Or the Sonnax .500 Boost valve would help if not Trans Go.

It is not a clutch issue, its not a trans issue it is a PCM issue.
The Trans Go Vac Mod for the 4L60E will END this issue
if once the burnt 3/4 clutches are R&Red.

When you say "Transgo Vac Mod" and Transgo HD" are these the same and are you referring to what most of use refer to as the Transgo Shift/Reprogramming Kit?
Ok check out the picture linked above

No they are not the same.

The Blue Box is the TransGo HD shift kit It fixes hi rev apply issues, 2/4 band burn up and rasies the pressures and lowers accumilator time.

The White Box is the TransGo Vacuum Modulator kit It replaces the PCM controlled force motor and is a slick solution to may pressure issues with the 4L60E

What do you mean by "low TPS/hi load situations"?
climbing a hill at low throttle.

It started with bogging and shuddering in 4th gear, then over several days it has taken over 3rd gear and after driving it for about a week in this condition it is now missing a bit also in 1st and 2nd. My tranny guy says my problem is an ignition one --
If you have over 40K on a raced opti it is TOAST. Check out the Dynotech unit or order a new one from Dal or Sam. Don't forget the h20 pump gaskets.

TAD out
