how much to replace water pump?

My water pump went out on me and I'm wondering how much I could get a water pump for. My mechanic quoted me 480 to replace it. I'm just wondering if this is an OK deal too? I really need my car back and done tomorrow so I cant order a part from jegs but I could go to Autozone, Oreillys or another place in houston to a water pump if the price is right

no, thats not an ok deal. water pumps are under 100 dollars and they are really easy to do your self. just make sure you get ALL the water out before you take the water pump off so you dont get any water on the opti spark

I can't think of anything on the net, maybe someone else can chime in for ya... You can get a haynes book to help you. They are very detailed

I went to pepboys (local parts store) and got a Hayes repair manual for camaro. These aren't the best, but it got me through the job.

Here's a few site for your reference. Just ignore the electric water pump and opti change.

$480 is high, but it's lower than what I was quoted recently. This local shop wanted $625 for just a pump replacement. The decision was easy for me to do it myself. I paid $230 for a new AC Delco water pump from a local retailer and took my time over three days. If you have all the parts and at least eight hours, you can do it in one day. A Haynes manual will help as well.

When you do it, unbolt the fans and then jack up the car and take them out from underneath. Unfortunately I don't think you can do it without dropping the fans.

Yup, go with the $49.99 autozone WP, iot even has a lifetime warranty. It is easy to change, and yes, $450 or whatever you said is insane. If you were near me, I would do it for $100.

Shoot me an email if you have any questions, or hit me up on AIM
