Re: Golen Motors

They build a decent shortblock but don't let them do the heads get them from one of the head companies you see talked about here.

Re: Golen Motors

I just finished installing and breaking-in my new Golen 396 stroker (Golen built the short block for me). And, I couldn't be "more happy" with Golen's work and the professionalism of Chad Golen!

As far as I’m concerned, Golen Engine Services are the “go to people” for custom-built LT engines and you just can’t go wrong with one of their LT engines! I’m sure there are other great machine shops around that do a good job with LTs; however, I don’t know who they are.

After receiving the Golen short-block, I assembled the long-block using AFR 195 LT4 heads w/ LT4 intake, new Comp XFI cam (2200-6300 RPM range) w/ Beehive springs, new Crane roller lifters and 1.6 roller rockers, w/ Crane custom 3/8” pushrods, #30 SVO injectors, Mezier W/P, new Moroso LT/F-Body 6qt oil pan w/ HV pump and PCMforLess programming (Bryan is also great with the LT programming).

After breaking it in, the first time down the track I ran an 11.56 @ 117.41! Check-out my link for some pictures.

Agreed! 1200+ miles on my 383 short block (LE heads) and no problems whatsoever.

I just wanted to take a moment and chime in. We specialize in performance engines for late model Chevy vehicles. We have various packages to choose from, and have built them for many members of this site.

Re: Golen Motors

I don't know about them, I have two friends with Golen motors... one of them has a 383 and the other has a 355. The one with the 383 made 3rwhp more than the one with the 355, on the same dyno. All I know is that I'd be upset spending all that extra money for 3rwhp over their 355. Oh yeah and the one with the 383 has some crazy ported stage 3 heads over the 355 guys mildly ported heads if I remember correctly

AS far as comparing the 383 and a 355 hat are the TQ #'s, how about rpm needs to produce power, power under the curve. There is alot more to it than peak HP. I made 395rwhp w/a H/C car than spent $7000 on a built shortblock and only picked up 16 peak rwhp. But it produced peak almost 800 RPM sooner and made over 400lb/ft of TQ from 2400-5200 rpm.

Re: Golen Motors

I know a couple people with golen engines, but when I blow my motor, or decide to put a built one in I'm going to go with VRE.

I'm looking forward to you coming over to see and hear the new engine and also my new shop (1200 sq ft w/ epoxy floor coat). I'll send a map to your personal e-mail account also with my cell number.

I'm also looking forward to Jr getting back from the mid-east (Q8). I can always count on him to help me at the races (but he loves driving my golf cart the most). Jr also has his new Mustang that hasn't been to the track yet.

Re: Golen Motors

A couple guys just this summer posted around 320rwhp out of Golen stroker longblocks at least one of those the 440hp package, people tend to not understand the HUGE difference a engine dyno to a chassis dyno reading makes not just drivetrain but accessories and full intake and exhaust, Chad is a good honest guy people just don't understand what they are buying. Other guys that supplied their own heads do fine HP wise.

Re: Golen Motors

Yeah there is a lot to be said for staying local IF there is a good shop nearby like that. We are all human and make mistakes and a shop in driving distance will be a lot easier to deal with.
