E85 in LT1 5.7
I have run straight E85 in my 1994 Caprice 5.7 LT1 without any modifications, no injector change.. nothing.. as is factory 9C1 settings and runs fine mileage isnt much different from Reg. Mid. or High gas. the LT1 likes the higher octane and runs much smoother for running more circles around crown vics lol

Re: E85 in LT1 5.7
I didn't think the LT1 was capable of taking E85 without some changes. Your car maybe running, but is it running right?

Re: E85 in LT1 5.7
Thank you for the informative post.
E85 has an AFR of 9.76, while conventional gasoline is 14.7. You are burning 33% LESS fuel than what the PCM thinks. The potential to do lots of damage is there.

Re: E85 in LT1 5.7
For over a year now I have had zero issues, the 9C1 computer has higher performance tuning then the civil package, perhaps that may play a role.

Re: E85 in LT1 5.7
Everyone who has a vague comprehension of how the system works is going to tell you it is not working right.
We can't convince you to realize it is not right.
Maybe getting engine monitoring software and seeing what the pcm is doing would convince you.
We all did foolish things we swore were good when we were news, some of us just grow out of it.
For the next guy who reads this though the OP is clearly without a clue, that said there ARE guys running LT1s on E85 with appropriate computer, fuel pump, injector modification. Yes they are taking a gamble on the fuel system handling it long term but I have not seen any troubles reported sofar.

Re: E85 in LT1 5.7
Besides not having the capacity the pcm can not correct enough to even make them try.
Far as the "high performance tuning" on the 9C1 step out of the 70s this aint the blues mobile. The programming differences are very minor some shift point tweaks to compliment the 3.08 9c1 gears compared to the civi 2.93 gears, a higher top speed limiter and AC shutoff at a lower throttle percentage. The fuel and spark are the same as grandma's Roadmaster.

Re: E85 in LT1 5.7
My 95 Z28 had E85 run in it before i got it.
Ive had to replace the injectors, and will be changing the fuel pump this month because of it.
Theres a reason GM only recommends up to 8% ethanol MAX. (says right in the manual)
And because somebody didnt pay attention, its costing me money and time.
