Future mods with my mods

Hey guys. This is my first post in about two years. I plan to install headers soon and I need to know which I would benefit from more, Longtubes or shorties? The car is of course OBD2 and I plan to keep emisions but delete the cats. To be honest I want longtubes ( have ever since I rode in my friends C5 with some) but are they going to be alot louder? I am going to run them into a custom Y-pipe into my flowmaster cat-back if I get them. Do you think I should get shorties instead? Ground clearance is somewhat of an issue. Is the power gain that much more with longtubes? Also with my mods would a twin 52mm throttle body yield much of a power gain? I'm still running a stock one. Thanks for any info/help. Nick

Re: Future mods with my mods

It is pointless to keep emissions but delete the cat. They kind of contradict eachother. If i was you i would do an OBD1 conversion, delete all emission stuff (it really cleans up the engine bay) then add the headers of your choice. I've read of some nightmare install of LT's but i've heard of some that just fall into place. Longtubes don't make a car louder. What tends to make a car louder after headers is that most of the time people get rid of the cat. That is what makes it loud. From my personal experience is that headers smooth out the exhaust tone but don't make it any louder. I have heads, larger cam and i'm running SLP midlengths. Everyone will come in here telling you to do long tubes but Midlengths can make power too. Several people have put out over 400rwhp with midlengths. Most people say that 52mm tb's are a waste of time and you should jump straight to 58mm. I though i felt a big diff with my 58mm.

Re: Future mods with my mods

You only need a 58MM when you have heads/cam though right?

In my personal opinion a 58mm probably isn't needed until you have at least a cam. You have to pull the intake off (in my honest opinion) to port the intake for a 58mm so you might as well do when your doing a cam/heads.

If you drag race go with long tubes. Shorts are OK for street. I would go with a blower. Once blown, NA just does'nt cut it.

You have to have a cat to be emissions leagal so you have to pick if you want to be legal or not. If not, go with longtubes no questions asked. If you do then go with the shorties. And a 52mm or 58mm T.B. would be a good mod considering you have a cam and ported heads, and soon headers. Good luck.
