Re: Distributor Lock out

Locking out a distributor would seem to involve removing the vacuum advance feature and the timing adjustment achieved through the centrifugal weights. None of that applies to the LT1, so it would seem if you want to program your own advance curve in the MSD box, you would have to go into the PCM program and zero out the timing curve in the program. In effect, you would be removing the fairly sophisticated timing capability of the stock system, and replacing it with a possibly less sophisticated system in the MSD box.

There are also "hidden" timing offsets in the stock program that I doubt can be eliminated.

Is this a power adder application, where you need to pull timing based on use of nitrous or forced induction boost? If not, why not just program the timing map you want into the PCM. If it is, boost can easily be addressed with a 2-bar MAP sensor. Pulling timing on spray can be done with a much simpler external system, which can also address multiple step rev limiters.

Or maybe I don't understand the capability of the programmable 6AL-2.
