Crank hub fell off with supercharger pulley, options?
My crank hub fell off for the second time yesterday. When i put it back on this time the hub was was easily seated by hand and then I torqued it down and drove home without connecting the supercharger belt.
My guess is the extra pull on the hub from the supercharger pulley is causing the hub to spin and loosen.
The 2 options I came up with were cutting the hub for a woodruff key but that would require replacing the one in there with a full size key meaning i have to pull the timing cover. The other option is stage 8 sells a locking harmonic balancer bolt kit for a sbc part #8993. The thread is the same but I'm not sure if it would work or not.
Any ideas or suggestions?

You don't replace the stock key, you add a key in the front slot where there isn't one, now. Might be possible to put a key in there without removing the cover. Blown cars normally use a keyed hub because of what you are experiencing.

If I can add a front key without removing the timing cover it would be way easier for me, and now that i think about it there were 2 slots in the crank. Also it's probably right about needing a new hub since it slipped on easily, the first time I had to use the threaded rod with washer setup to even get it close. That being said, does anyone know where I can get a new hub? I know that a gen 1 sbc uses basically the same crank so can I get a gen 1 hub that is already keyed and will match the harmonic damper bolt pattern of an Lt1? A part number or link would be awesome, I just wanna make sure it works. Thanks.

So I found this one on jegs:
JEGS Performance Products 51607, JEGS SFI LT1/LS Harmonic Balancers/Dampers | JEGS Performance Products
Although it doesn't state if it is or is not keyed, I guess I could call to confirm that.
Thanks for the advice though, makes it a lot easier for me.

if you look at the picture of the product...it is keyed. the description says it does not include a woodruff key so you will need to get a SBC key
don't think this bolts up to a OEM damper so you will need to get that to
could just buy a ATI damper & hub also
your SC pulley bolts to the damper, right?
you want a keyed hub and many also drill/pin the hub also on SC builds
use a good install tool, don't beat this hub on with a hammer
