coolant temp switch

coolant temp switch
Thank's guys for all your help. I was able to solve codes 36 and 42
Still have DTC 97. Keep in mind this is a transplanted 94 Lt1 in an old
Ford. I am also using the GM 4l60e Transmission. My electronic speedo
works fine. I recently changed the Vehicle Speed Sensor because there was
a leak coming from the plug in the switch. Also have DTC 77. My fan control
circuit has been modified with an external temp. switch located in the lower
radiator hose. This is activated when coolant reaches 185. There is only one
fan. It also comes on automatically when a/c is on. Lastly there is a DTC 11.
I don't have any SES light in my dash circuit. None of these codes are affecting performance, but I would like to clear them from my computer.
Can you tell me how?
will tefflon on threads of switch affect the accuracy of temp readings?

Re: coolant temp switch
Usually not unless there is a ton on there. You could easily check the ground potential with a meter from the metal body of the sensor to where it is mounted. There should be no resistance between the two.

Re: coolant temp switch
You should be able to unplug the battery for a few minutes to clear the PCM. If you fixed the VSS then the code 97 should clear on its own. Code 77 will need to be turned off in the PCM because the computer wants to control the fan and cannot. Same applies to code 11; the computer wants to command the MIL light but it can't because you don't have one. Alternatively, you could hook up a simple light to the circuit and mount it in the dash.
