Coolant leaking from underneath pump....

Is the weep hole underneath the water pump, because I'm leaking coolant, even when the car is shut off, from like right above the opti. I can't see exactly where its coming from. Is this the stupid water pump leaking? It also seems to do it intermittently.

Sounds like weephole. Take a good look down there and find out for sure what is leaking first. If its weephole then you need new pump. Sorry

Re: Coolant leaking from underneath pump....

It could be leaking out the weephole which with the car sitting still should leak infront or possibly off the front of the optispark cap. Or if the one of the waterpump gaskets seals has gone bad itll leak down the front of the block and all over the opti.

If the opti is still working my guess would be out the weephole.

One thing is for sure, get that fixed before you end up having to replace the optispark in addition to the water pump.

More importantly, if it is the weep hole, you need to get the water pump changed before you have bearing failure in the middle of rush hour traffic.

I just changed my WP for the same reason...and I figured since I was in there, I might as well change the opti...my car just isn't the same anymore, I love it, smooth throught RPMs and it feels like she's responding better!

Good luck mate!

Thanks guys, thats kinda what I figured, so far the opti's been alright. Gonna have to give Jason a call again and tear into this thing for the third time this summer.

Make sure you have your first aid kit on hand...I needed it.

GM engineers couldn't have put that WP in a worse place!!!

Good luck mate!

LOL, you would thnk that in 50 years, they would have found a better place for it, eh? Pretty standard location for a V8 engine.

Hard to believe that the SBC engine will be 50 years old in 2005!

Re: Coolant leaking from underneath pump....

You can see if it is your pump's weep hole... jack it up and get under the front of the car. look for the little hole in bottom of pump and if it has dark discoloration/stain around it and going back toward the motor, then that's definitely your problem. I just pulled my 3rd water pump off last night. Argh. It WILL destroy your optispark eventually if not fixed.
