Check engine light

Got it scanned a while back. Egr solenoid is what it came up with.
When I start up my car it gets warmed up then light comes on. When I come to a complete stop at a stop light it will go off and then as soon as I start to go it comes back on. What should I do? How should I go about replacing it.

Re: Check engine light

The egr unit is mounted on the back of the intake manifold and is held on by two nuts....1/2" open end wrench will get it off. Before replacing it, check the vacuum line to it to make sure there isn't and cracks.

Now that I think about it, I'm not sure a 94 will give an EGR specific code. Can you post the the actual code?

Re: Check engine light

OBD-1 94 has two codes for the EGR:

DTC 27 - EGR Vacuum solenoid circuit fault

DTC 32 - EGR flow

Re: Check engine light

Check the solenoid. With connector off the solenoid, measure the resistance of the solenoid across the two pins. If I recall it should be in the range of 15 - 40 ohms. If the solenoid is OK, check the fuse in the underhood panel. Unlikely, because that fuse also controls several other devices that would set codes. Then with key on, check for 12V on the brown wire in the harness connector. If you have 12V, check the continuity of the gray wire, back to pin A9 on the PCM (PCM supplies a pulse width modulated ground to actuate the solenoid).
