Throw away compressor?
I have a z28 V6 1996 which the ac does not work but not a problem here in the UK, I would rather open the windows!.The noise has been getting steadily worse from the compressor and could possibly be a bearing(have changed the idler pulley) Can you remove the compressor and get a smaller belt.If so doea anyone know which size and any tips on how to rework. Thanks

Welcome to CamaroZ28.com !!
Your post is a bit confusing. You indicate you have a Z28 V6. All Z28 models 93-97 have the LT1 V8. Only the base model Camaro had the 3.8L V6 in 1996.
If its actually an LT1 V8, there is an "A/C delete" pulley that allows you to eliminate the A/C compressor, while maintaining the stock serpentine belt routing, and (in most cases) the stock belt length. Not sure if there is something similar for the V6.

Re: Throw away compressor?
For V-8...Yes, you can get an AC delete pulley to replace the AC compressor and use the same belt. They used to cost about $26 at the dealer here but I have seen them for more around $40+ on EBAY usually, however every once in a while someone is selling one in the parts section. If you do a search, I'm sure more information will pop up.

Re: Throw away compressor?
1996 Camaros were never produced with straight 6's; it's either a V6 or a V8 if the car is stock.
