Can the TPS be cleaned

This is on a 97 lt1. The TPS gives these intermitent problems: high idle speed, SES light, p0122 hidden code. Can the TPS be cleaned, or should it just be replaced?

Re: Can the TPS be cleaned

The sensor is pretty much a sealed unit, with a projecting shaft that engages the throttle shaft and rotates with it. Since its little more than a rheostat, you could remove it from the TB and try and flush it out with electronics contact cleaner. Also check the harness connector for loose wires, or corrosion on the pins. While the sensor is off, connect an ohm meter accross the pins for the blue and black wires, and watch for a smooth change in resistance, with no sudden "blips" to indicate a bad contact spot.

Re: Can the TPS be cleaned

Thanks. I found the new ac-delco part for $33 locally. I'm thinking of just replacing it since of all my symptoms (include running rich) point to the TPS.

Re: Can the TPS be cleaned

sorry to butt in, but what does the TPS actually do? What are the symptoms if it goes bad?
