just installed the hotcam kit. '94 already has hardened pushrods. reused the pushrods lifters, replaced the timing chain with a stock one. good luck if you wanna do the LT4 HD timing chain on a '94.

My advice is... DO LIFTERS. Mine started collapsing after my cam install and i had to pay MORE money for them to break back into the motor and put in Comp R's... And i went ahead and did the LT4 Extreme Duty timing chain.

i would upgrade to a 95+ vented opti. Just get yourself a vented opti, a cam for 95-97 and then you'll need a new 95+ timing cover. Then you can run a LT4 ED timing chain.

use the stock pushrods they are hardened, just buy a brand new timing chain, sprocket everything you will be fine.as far as tune pcmforless or madz28 have dead on programming i had 337rwhp with shorty headers, open cutout. it is an awesome kit.

i don't understand all these girly men who are too afraid to break into their own motor to fix stuff and pay to have it done.

don't waste your money on a stock chain. They are junk. People break them with stock motors why risk it. Last thing i would want to do is grenade a motor to save a few $100. Not a smart trade off.

Here are just a few. You can pick any or all of them to read. I can also find you more to read if you would like. To me it is just plain stupid to put a stock chain back in. Your just playing with fire.

i'm not worried about it. my buddy has a heads/cam (cc306) on the stock chain and its been on for about 3 years now.

Re: but a LT4 HC kit, what do I need else

also besides just risking breaking a chain, the stock factory chain is much more prone to stretching/wear which will cause inaccurate valve timing. You don't really see most of the extremely knowledgable people on here using stock chains on their build ups. If i was this guy i would upgrade chain, its just common sense.

Re: but a LT4 HC kit, what do I need else

You have several options. The best chain you can get is a Double Roller chain, most people run a Cloyes but with this set up you have to run an electric waterpump. If you want to keep the stock water pump you can either go with the LT4 extreme duty and upgrade to the 95+ vented opti system, or i believe Lunati is making a chain for 92-94 LT1's (i haven't heard anything good or bad about it yet, do a search). I guess it depends all on how much you want to spend. I think the Lunati would be the cheapest route but research it first and make sure its actually better than stock. I've seen them for about $100 bucks. The next cheapest route would be the Cloyes and electric pump. It will make more hp and probably cost around $300 but i think you sacrifice reliability. Some peoples electric pumps last years and some last days. I think the best all around set up is the 95+ Extreme duty set up. I think you could probably piece that all together for 450-500. The extreme duty chain isn't as good as the cloyes but it allows you to retain the stock waterpump and upgrade to the more reliable vented opti. The things you need for this is the vented opti, 95+camshaft, 95+ timing cover and thats probably the bulk of the parts.
