Building new LT1 engine have some questions?

Hey guys I'm in the process of building a new LT1 for my 97 Z28 from a bunch of parts I have lying around (spare block, Cola 4340 forged crank, 4340 forged 6" rods, SRP forged pistons, 847 cam, extreme duty timing set, LE3 heads, Herron billet oil pump drive and 58mm holley tb) as the engine in the car is starting to have fluctuating oil pressure. Anyway I am looking for recommendations on aftermarket oilpan, lifters, roller rockers, underdrive balancer and opti/coil. What are you guys using and if any of you have parts I need please feel free to contact me at z24.turbo@gmail.com, thanks?

Re: Building new LT1 engine have some questions?

Can't answer all those questions, but I will tell you that I've run the stock oil pan on my stroker for 14 years. Buddy of mine ran the stock oil pan on an 1,125HP blown 383. Stock windage tray, blueprinted GM oil pump with white spring on both engines.

I believe my ATI Super Damper is slightly U/D, but to me trying to gain a couple HP with a U/D damper on a 500HP engine is sort of pointless, given the possibility of a discharge at idle, and the need of a high performance EFI engine for max charging system voltage.

Can't help on the full valve train, since I have a solid roller setup, but I run the Comp Pro Mags (since discontinued and replace with the Ultra Pro Magnum). Nor on the ignition, because I run the equivalent of the Bailey Engineering LTCC. The Opti is a vented conversion using an AC Delco, but only used for the cam position sensor.

Re: Building new LT1 engine have some questions?

Thanks Injuneer on the balancer I want to replace the stock one and hub with something better like the one from Jeg's or ASP, also the spare block doesn't have the oilpan on it and I would really like to get a higher capacity pan since I have to buy one anyway, thanks.

I've run a Canton 242-t pan. It does it's job and holds 7 quarts. Just make sure you seal up any threaded holes with tape and you'll want to order the plug for the oil level sender if you have long tube headers.

I run LS7 lifters in my 408 just fine. I also have Morel link bars in my 383 LT1. Either work well. I also run comp pro mags & an ATI Super Damper as well as LS1 coils (24x conversion).

Re: Building new LT1 engine have some questions?

Thanks guys, I brought LS7 lifters, refurbished 97 timing cover (Golen engines) and a Kevko 1091 road race LT1 oil pan. I am looking at the Jeg's 18-1 SFI LT1 balancer and hub, that way I have something certified for the techs at the track. I will be taking my parts to the machine shop on Friday so he can get started.

And so it has begun, parts dropped off last Friday whoooo.

I dropped everything off on 10/4/14 so as soon as the machining abd balancing is done I'll take pics and post them, man I just can't wait to feel the power, LOL!!!!
