Borla Y-Pipe 93-95 LT1 w/stock manifolds, WORTH IT?
#16
Ok heres the deal lol, i am going to put a Loud Mouth on my car, I was also wondering about the Y-pipe, because i can get one for pretty cheap. But how much difference woudl the y pipe make with this setup:
Stock Headers, SLP Y Pipe?, Stock Cat, SLP Loudmouth?
What difference woudl the Y Pipe Make?

Well actually that woudlnt make much sense, because i am asking my question because i can buy the y pipe for cheap, but not sure if its worth the 40 dollars +shipping. Thats why i asked.
So me doing dyno testing makes no sense!
Did you gain 7 rwhp with just the y pipe and totally stock exhaust?

Doesn't really matter. I did a before and after dyno of the Y-pipe itself. I've dyno'd nearly ALL my power mods. I don't care much for ballpark guesstimations, and like to see for myself what certain parts are worth.
My next dyno will be between a stock, ported, and Granatelli MAF's, then I plan on doing a run between my stock wheel/tire combo and my TT2's are also.

Brent Bud, I was asking info on the situation because i do not want to waste my money. I think dyno testing your mods is a great idea. When you dyno tested the Y-Pipe...was it just the Y-Pipe or were there other exhaust mods? You did get 7rwhp from it right? I plan on Loudmouth and maybe the y pipe. I dont actually have the y pipe yet, if i did...i woudl do a dyno....but i dont, and i dont want to waste my money. Thanks

I hear ya bro. I already had a straight pipe and Flowmaster cat-back on the car. Yeah, I did gain a solid 7 RWhp off it. If you notice on the stock y-pipe there are a lot of kinks in the bends, that's probably where the restrictions are.

Go ahead and do it. If you are on a tight budget or just want to avoid headers do it.
Obviously, headers are the best for all out power.
But that being said, I bought my borla y-pipe used and I am very pleased with it. At the same time I would install a high flow cat. If you have the money, buy an off road pipe as well. Make up the couplings so that the y-pipe and off-road pipe are interchangable - very convienient for trips to the drags or when emisions check time comes around.
Benifits include: A noticable gain in power and a great improvement in exhaust sound. My system sounds great. (A little too loud with the off-road pipe on leasurely highway cruises)

K i am gonna do the y pipe, i am gonna also try to find a high flow cat...the cat woudl make alot of sense to me because i woudl be making the y pipe high flow, then restricted in the cat, then high flowing again in the cat back
