Best starter and best battery for lt1??....

I'm about to buy a starter and battery. What is the best place to go to get one and what is the best one to get?

I was thinking about getting an lt4 starter and going to advance auto parts or napa for the battery. am I headed in the right direction?

I would agree that the LT4 starter is a very good upgrade from the stock LT1 piece. I had one, but it rubbed with my SLP 1 3/4" shorties so I had to get a Powermaster mini high torque starter -- same thing as the LT4 only a bit smaller. The LT4 starter will have much more torque and will sound "cooler" when you start your car.

As for the battery, I stand behind the Optima Redtop with all its cold cranking amps, but that may be overkill at ~$170 Only the best for my ride

I've only got 200 to get the battery and starter, so I'm kind of in a bind.

Then a Duralast or similar battery @ $70 will be the best bet. The LT4 starter alone will probably run you over $200 though...

I've seen lt4 starters go for 150 shipped.

Is it not okay to just get the cheapest battery that aap has?

Oops, yeah you're right about the starters, I bought mine years ago. You could get a cheap battery, but it will die much sooner then a good quality one. Plus, you want at leat 800-or-more cold cranking amps especially if you have cold winters.

So, less than 800cca will not start the car during winter? How many cca do I need during summer? (I live in NC)

Optima red can be had from Sam's or AutoZone for around $100.

Sorry I can't tell you; I only have experiences with SLP headers.

LT4 batter/optima red top. You asked what the best is, so there ya go. $200 for the starter *and* a batter won't get you the best

I opted to go with a midgrade (700cca) advance auto parts battery with a 3yr free replacement and 7yr prorate.

I will either get a powermaster or lt4 starter. Apparently, the powermaster is smaller, which may be a good thing. It is $161 at advance auto parts.

Re: Best starter and best battery for lt1??....

Optimas get replaced all the time?? Not really. The Optima red top that's in my car has had quite a rough life but is still working flawlessly. It was in a guy's supercharged 96 Cobra that he wrecked into an interstate guard rail at about 120 mph, since the car was totalled I bought the batter from him, then it was in my Camaro for about a year, now it's been in my Nissan for about a year. These are some of the toughest batteries out there. This guy that's telling you that they get replaced all the time is probably full of s***.
