LT1 Swap into my Conquest...

OK I have a 87 Conquest, 2.6L, Turbo Intercooled. around 200hp. I have been thinking seriously about putting in a SBC. So Ive come to want a LT1 in it. It would look sweet and have some *****. The rearends on these cars can handle up to 450hp. IRS with limitd slip, and 3.54 gears. This is going to be mostly drag use, but may see the street and shows some..

Will $1200 be enough to get me a complete LT1 (Z,TA or Vette) dont want a iron head one.
Thanks for the input,,
Steven

I wouldn't do it. Why don't you put in the 4g63 (i think that's the designation for the eclipse turbo motor) in there? I think Dave Buschur had a car like that that I saw in an old Turbo magazine article. I wouldn't add the weight if you don't have to. That motor can be made plenty fast and you'll still have a ton of room in the engine compartment.

1200 should be enough to get a decent LT1 with the wiring and accessories. I paid 950 for mine and that was 4 years ago.

Yeah a 4G63 would only cost around $3K-$4k to get it and install it and make a tranny that would bolt up to it. Id rather put an aluminum head V8 in there and have fun. Lot cheaper to use a SBC than a mitsu engine..

The LT1 would be much cheaper and way cooler

LS1 powered RX-7 ?hmmm sounds cool. I would prefer the traditional LT1 94-97. I just think it looks awesome with that nice big intake. Ill be checking into this and keep ya updated on what I find..

Thanks Steven

Cooler absolutely! I was just looking at it from a weight perspective. Really cool would be an ls1 with the slight weight advantage.

Ive seen different motor setups in the conquest.

350sbc
302sbf
340sbc
3.8L buick Turbo

I would think the LT1 would be fine since I dont plan on any SCCA racing. I am a drag racer. %110..

A long time ago I had an '88 Conquest TSI. It was a cool looking car, but yes, when you start to mod them the already poor reliability gets worse. I think an LT1 would be a good swap, and I don't even know if weight would be a problem. That 2.6 liter turbo was a heavy engine.

The more positive responses I get the more I want to do this swap. I will start looking for a donor in the next few weeks. Keep em coming..
Should I use the Speed density or the MAF setup? I know that on the thirdgens the SD is better...

I don't know where I saw it at, but someone put a LT1 or LS1(?) in a black Conquest. I think it was for sale for the mere price of 25K? Couldn't be certain of that price or the exact details.

I think your 3.8 turbo idea is awesome. You can set the motor more back for better weight distribution. Would absolutely be an awesome car! Cheap to mod too!

i had an 87 & 88 conquest,
very underated car.. i think. loved them, but those damn turbos
always seemed to have problems.

i would do a buick 3.8 cause weight factor, might cost a lil more but you might actually enjoy driving it.
i cant see a SBC being any good for the handleing of that car
and thats what that car was best at.
