Question Alright guys, what should I do next?

The car is my daily driver, and I’m pretty conservative with my mods. I don’t typically do anything too radical with the car. I drive 50 miles/day and, with 60% highway/interstate.

I’m trying to decide what to do next with my Z28 for added power, speed, or fun in general. I have the mods that are listed in the sig, plus I have LT4 springs and hardened pushrods waiting to go in after I buy some 1.6 RR’s. My appearance mods are done (OEM SS Hood and OEM SS rims). My suspension mods are done I think. I’d prefer not to tear into the engine internals if I don’t have to. I already have a PCM tune also.

Things I’ve been considering:
3.73 rear gears (Cons: possibility of getting whine) $400 installed
Pro 5.0 shifter (Cons: shifter noise that I hear about) $160
Lowering springs (Cons: harsh ride) $200
Cam (Cons: spinning a bearing) $300

What do you think, any other options? Best bang for the buck?

Of your possible choices I would do the shifter first , then add some GM gears. GM gears when installed correctly will be virtually noise free.

I would also look into some possible exhaust mods, if youre worried about headaches I would stick with some nice shorties that have a ball collector flange type collector (much more leak free) and thick head flanges (at least 3/8 inch). with a high flow cat.

Thanks for the replies. I already have Mac Headers, bullet muffler, and Hooker catback as listed in the sig. (I love my exhaust setup, it's exactly what I wanted.)

I've been thinking about that shifter, like you said. I just hear so many guys complain that it's loud, but love the feel.

I would go with lowering springs and subframes if you don't have them. Both are cheap and make the car a lot more fun for everyday driving.

I would do 4.10 gears, I like the whine that mine have! I would also do the pro 5.0 shifter with a short shifter, next I would work on air, CAI, MAF, air foil, a 52MM TB. That will help alot!!

Put a Pro 5.0 in it. Once you do you will kick yourself in the *** for not doing it the day you bought the car. It feels awesome and clicks into gears nice and firm. You KNOW when you're in gear. It MAY vibrate a tiny bit more than the stock shifter, but if you can't handle that litle vibration then you need to sell your Camaro and buy and automatic Sunfire.

Good stuff.

Looks like I was too concerned about the noise. Glad to hear it's not as big of a deal as I've heard.

I do a LOT of highway/interstate driving over 70 mph. 4.10 would be too high of an RPM for me on a daily driver. If I only drove around town, I would do 4.10's for sure. 75-80 mph with 4.10's puts me at 2400 rpm, which is higher than I want to be for RPM when I'm cruising.

Thanks for the replies.

Oh and with lowering the car you might want to look into how good the mac mids are with ground clearance.

He better not go to 4.10's. If he drives the majority of the time on the highway, with 4.10's he will be pushing 3-3.5 grand in the revs. His gas milage will be shot. IF ANYTHING go with gears 3.73.

But of the options you got there, you will feel the most with gears.

Actuall with a cam, but if you don't want to tear your engine apart (trust me you don't i am doing it as we speak) stick with your gear idea. Or a computer tune.

Actually, I'm a M6, so it's not as bad as you think, but 4.10's are still to much from my taste. 3.73's are the only gear change I would do.

I can offer an Alternator Cut-out device that prevents 10 hp loss during WOT.

Let me know if interested.
