97 V8-6SP into a 94 Z28? what to expect?

alright guys i have some questions about swapping an OBD-II drivetrain into an OBD-I car.

i currently have a 97 Firebird WS6. LT-1 / T56. it is running really good but my CEL is throwing like 3 codes and the car is wrecked (PO slide it into a pole...)

i have an opportunity to get my hands on a 1994 Z28 rolling chassis. the Z28 was a factory LT1 / T56 car. i want to swap into the camaro because it is a straight body and i strongly prefer OBD-I cars.

are there any major issues i should expect when doing the swap? the Z28 is currently complete. its current owner is keeping its engine and transmission. but he said i am welcome to use the Z28's wiring harness, computer and any sensors that i need off of it.

will the OBDII engine have any fitment issues? and will it accept all of the wiring and sensors from the OBDI car?

Thanks.

Direct swap, except for the short Opti harness. You need to use the short harness from the 97 engine (from the gray connector on the bracket on the passenger side of the intake manifold to the Opti).

94 will not control the complete AIR system without rewiring, if the 97 had the AIR pump recall done. Pump may have a different connector.

97 engine will have a crank position sensor, and an EVAP purge vacuum switch that you simple leave unconnected, since they are not required for the 94 PCM.

Does the 94 have intact fans? Early 94 model year fan controls are different than late 94 (same as 97) fans.

No interface problems on the 97 M6. A 97 A4 with a 94 PCM would not work.

Re: 97 V8-6SP into a 94 Z28? what to expect?

thanks Fred!

my car (the 97 WS6) and my friends car (the Z28) are both 100% complete as of now.

my friend bought the car for the T56 swap. so he is keeping everything pertaining to the six speed swap. he also wants the engine but all he needs is the longblock. so i will have dibs on all of the electronics from both cars.

the Z28's fans will still be with the car.

i feel like i should have everything i need to get it done. just trying to learn as much as i can before i dive in. i will be deleting the air pump, EGR and cats when i do the swap. i should be able to skirt by NC inspection in the OBD-I car.
