97 SS tune up parts?
Hey guys I'm about to do a tune up on my 97 SS, it's mostly stock except for ebay stainless LTs, NGK plugs, Magnaflow catback, Fran airfilter and an airfoil all of which was already on the car except the headers and plugs which are new. I want to know if any of the aftermarket caps, rotors an coils (Accell, MSD etc) are worth adding or a waste of money? Also I installed new O2 sensors with the headers, thanks for any input you guys can give.

Re: 97 SS tune up parts?
The aftermarket caps and rotors are OK, but you need to locktite the rotor screws. They won't give you performance over stock parts, but if you need replacements, then they are fine to use. The main bodies of the 95+ optis last a long time. If plugs and wires are fairly new (don't forget the coil wire gets 8x as many sparks), there isn't too much to tuning up an EFI car since it is self adjusting. If you could look at the live data, that might tell you something about how healthy it is and how well all the sensors are working, but you have to have a handheld scanner or lappy/cable/software to do that. As part of a major tuneup, you could reseat connectors, do the battery terminals, check grounds, check vacuum hoses, intake manifold bolts, exhaust leaks, etc... Some of that less intuitive stuff can have a drastic effect on how well the car runs.
