94 lt1

Good Morning Members,
I have an 94 lt1 installed in an old Ford. I have a problem
when engine reaches around 185 degrees. Car loads up with fuel, sputters
and eventually stalls. I have replaced Opti-spark,o2 sensors, water-pump,
temp.sensor switch, coil, ignition control module and knock sensor. I also
ran a scan using Gary Doug's 9495 program. I come up with the following
codes: 11,36,42,77,97. I was told that Fred Injuneer may have some input.
Anyone else please feel free to respond. I surely appreciate any info. on how to proceed with these symptoms. Also forgot to mention that the egr valve is blocked off. Don't know if this matters. Thanks so much.
Frank

Re: 94 lt1

Wrong forum. This is for the 98-02 LS1 engine. I'll move this to "LT1 Based Engine Tech" for you.

Re: 94 lt1

You can get the code definitions from Shoebox's LT1-specific code list:

http://shbox.com/1/Dtcs.htm

DTC 11 = problem with the SES light. Sounds like the bulb is burned out, or someone cut the wire to cover up the fact that the light was on for all the other codes. OR since you installed the LT1 in a different chassis, maybe it's not even hooked up.

DTC 36 = loss of high resolution signal from the optical cam position sensor in the Optispark distributor. Clear the codes and see if this one comes back. The engine will run without the high resolution pulse signal, but may cause extended cranking for startup, and a minor loss of ignition and fuel injector timing accuracy.

DTC 42 = ignition control circuit shorted or grounded. Can prevent starting. This is the signal from the PCM to the ICM that fires the coil. It has to be a "stored" code, because if it was an active code, the fuel system would shut down. This code may also be related to the loss of high resolution signal from the Opti.

DTC 77 = Cooling fan relay circuit. Problem with the circuit from the PCM to the relay for fan #1. Could be an indication that the fan control circuit has been modified with an external temperature switch..... Sound familiar????

DTC 97 = vehicle speed circuit sensor output signal. Is your speedometer working, or do you even have it hooked up since this is an LT1 engine in another chassis?
