Unhappy 93Z Speedo/ High RPM Problem

OK this is very odd...its been a problem for awhile now, but very intermediate

Once in a awhile, which is everytime I drive the car, 1 once a week, when Im driving, sometimes the car will all of a sudden throw on the check engine light, the RPMS jump up to 1700, and the speedo dies and doesnt work. IT does it for quite awhile, usually until i turn off the car and it sits for 10 min, then its fine.

Its quite annoying, and I figured maybe it was the vehicle speed sensor. Anyone with any ideas?

I have quite a bit of mods done to it, so if anyone needs them, I beelive their in my signature.

Thanx for da help!!

now... don't run to the bank with this one... but this has got me thinkin solenoid, or another electronic in the tranny

check engine light - only effective when something electronic/ electronic controlled is going spaztic

rpms jump to 1700 - do you have the 4l60e? electronic controlled tranny

speedo falling - the speedometer is controlled by electronic signal sent from transmission

i see a few connections there... what to make of it precisly... im not sure... but do with it what you will

good luck young grasshopper

Im pretty sure thats the tranny I have.

So your thinking the same thing as me. Sensor or solenoid or something eh? Whats the best wat to diagnose that? Take it in and have it looked at? I dont have equipment to check it myself.

Only problem is, I think ive done that before, (took it in) but they didnt find any problems because after I go to the auto shop, the problem stopped. So their computers couldnt find anything wrong.

Sounds like im screwed because I know that will happen again!

hang on... i just took another look at the pictures,,,

is this car a stick or an auto? 4l60e is an automatic transmission...

well you said its throwing a light... "check engine soon, service engine soon" that kinda thing...

that means the cars "throwing a code" go to autozone and they scan for problem codes for free.... the code is the cars way of saying "help, this is whats wrong with me"

sounds electrical for sure to me...

I think his car is M6 also. If he was running an auto his car would have a 700R4 since it is a 93.

It is a stick....

so its not an electric tranny? Cant these speed sensors go bad?

This sux...

B.T.W I can check my own error codes with a paper clip. U can do that on 93's

Tried it before though, after the car was shut off. It didnt show any codes though

Maybe I can do it again, right when it happens???

Are u being sarcastic? Or u dont beleive me?

On 93's you can do that AND Only on 93's.

You plug the two ends into two of the holes on the grey connector right below the steering wheel. THe check engine light will flash a certain amount of times for the error codes.

Ask any 93 owner
