87 octane ok???

Is using 87 i n my 96 z 6speed ok??? What does it require?

GM suggest 91 octane, because of the 10.5 compression... You can use 87 but knock retard and bad gas mileage.... At the pump you are only saving 2-4 dollars... My opinion its not worth the savings....

I've heard if you run low grade fuel it dosent run very well. That's just what i've heard. I run 93.

To reiterate the above posts, it'll run well but not to it's full potential. You may also get worse gas mileage which could negate any savings you got from paying 20 cents less per gallon. I ALWAYS run 93 in my car because that's what we have here in Illinois and I don't want to take any chances with this motor. I also have the knock sensor disabled as well, but at any throttle opening in any gear I get 0 knock. I'll gladly pay an extra three dollars a tank for peace of mind. It would be very interesting to see what kind of knock retard you are getting with 87. Just my .02.
