383 Build

Alright the Z28 I picked up threw some rods and scratched the cylinder walls So instead of a stock build I figured that the machine work is only $200 I'd have it bored .030 over and start a stroker build.

Anyways I've looked and ordered a bottom end, but my concern with is with the heads and cam.
Trying to find a decent set up I can use for it, just not sure on what cam I should get and what to do about the heads?

I've read around that the stock heads aren't horrible if I get them ported and what not. Trying to decide if this is a more viable option vs spending $1,000 on the heads?

Thought I'd come to you guys for some advice.

It is a "budget" build trying to keep it within about $7,000 including suspension, trans work etc.

Goal is about 500 hp at the crank

Re: 383 Build

right or wrong (I'm no expert at building a motor but...) my stroker build is likely going to be a Scat forged crank and pistons pn 1-41829 .. GenX 185 trickflow heads that I picked up, they were supposed to be used but are new. CC503 cam, a used Lloyd Elliot ported intake and a BBK58mm TB, 1.6:1 roller rockers
Haven't picked up the cam or the bottom end yet so I may change my mind yet but this is where my head is

Re: 383 Build

I've looked into Lloyd Elliot at their LE3 package. Waiting on a response, so maybe someone here can answer.

Is their price with sending my stock heads in? Because if that's the case I can get them ported locally for a fraction of the price. Or is this a cast of their own?

They port your LT1 heads. If anyone does it for "a fraction of the cost", it's not likely you will get the same results as LE or AI. These outfits have been proven to get excellent results.

It's only because I have friends and riding buddies I've known for years that own a shop out here. And they've done motors pushing anywhere from 750hp+ and none of the other guys have ever had an issue with the shop.

Reason I was asking since if they were new heads with a different cast, etc. That I could justify to myself on spending $2,000 with a cam
