1995 OBD1 Scanner issue

you and i both know the 1995 cars for SES diag are a pain in the butt... no way to jump them to flash the code, no OBD2 scanner will work with the OBD1 conputer... so what is the best way to find out what a SES code is? i went to a few shops around the area and they cant get it bc they only have a OBD1 scanner or a OBD2 scanner, not a OBD1 scanner with a OBD 2 connecto (16 pin) any suggestions?

this i snot for my car BTW,its my friends 1995 z28

Re: 1995 OBD1 Scanner issue

You'll have to find someone with an OBDI scan tool, with the proper cable. I feel sorry for those with a '95 who need the car scanned. A dealer can do it, but they'll want some money.

What has Rob (shoebox) done here?

Isn't this how to connect a OBD1 scan tool with a 12 poin connector to a 16 pin port on a 1995?

Find a place with a Tech2... it should be able to handle just about anything.

Re: 1995 OBD1 Scanner issue

Most popular scanners like the AutoXray can supply the required connector for your 95. Or, the LT1 ScanMaster doesn't have a plug, and simply needs to be connected to the tan data wire/pin, +12V source and a ground (the last 2 not necessarily in the ALDL) .

If you happend to have an OBD-II car as well, an Actron CP9145 can do both I and II. Many people with 95s use this scanner.

I use an ALDL cable. Cost $60 and connects to the serial port on your laptop. Works great.

I agree with rbaksi

if you own a laptop, buy an aldl cable, they make a cable thats 12 pin and 16pin obd1... there are a few free programs that you can use to monitor, scan, and clear codes with.

thanks for the replies, I found that scanner shoebox. Looks to be very handy, and I also found the ALDL serial connector. My question with the two (because i enjoy working with computers) is there any benefits of running a program with the ALDL connector over using just the OBD1 scanner, aside from enjoying using a laptop ??

You can do way more with laptop programs. Save and replay datalogs and such for analyzing. You can also display multiple data fields at once. It also opens you up to be able to do your own programming. Check out the RT tuner pro discussion in the programming forum.
