10.4 talylors wont fit opti boots!?
I called taylor directly before I went with the 10.4mm "409 race wire" to be sure that the opti boot set part number I used on my old 8mm would be usable or if there was something else to use, they said use the same old opti boot kit. So I bought it. And ... they dont fit. Of course. The old wires were 8mm and these are 10.4. So now I have the whole engine wired, over the valve cover kit in and everything and wires hanging at the opti with no boots. (I totally re-routed them so I didnt want to cut them until I knew for sure the length I wanted, turns out they are just BARELY long enough). I tried drilling out a boot but once I got it drilled big enough to accept the wire it fell apart.
SO, I took a spare chunk of wire and peeled off the outer coating to the braided fiberglass, the exposed part fit in the boot perfect. Of course this leaves the outer coating meeting the boot instead of being IN it with a tiny space of exposed insulation at the junction.
Would it be acceptable to just do this and use shrink wrap over the junction between the outer coating and the boot, or would it just arc like crazy there? I know this is an odd question and I do plan on calling Taylor back about the bad info, but I dont want to go backwards with these wires and I have the rest of the weekend - Thanks
By the way, these things are awesome, they're HUGE, they look like power line cable!

...no offence, but running wires that big won't really give you any advantage over 8mm or 8.8mm. You need to have a seriously modified engine to make use of wires that big. Granted they would look pretty good under the hood! I'm sure someone makes boots that are large enough to hold those monsters.

None taken. They are exactly the same wire as the spiro pro 8mm just with more insulation, intended for those running dirt track etc. You dont need a serious engine to use these wires, just serious protection. I'm using them because not even aluminum heat shields and 1200 degree taylor fire sleeves can stop my wires from getting burned (long story). I'm even still using completely stock ignition. They're just for more protection. Now, can anyone answer my question?
