1.7 roller rockers on my stockish trans am
hello all, have some questions, first of all, is scorpion the only brand that makes them for us? also what are the disadvantages going 1.7s on a stock motored lt1 (mods are in sig) will i lose any power down low. what can i expect as far as gains (1/4 times and dyno #) finally where can i buy them meaning the whole kit springs rockers etc. how much and will i have to modify anything for them to work

The lower the ratio the better for high RPM use. On a car with a lower lift ( near stock ) cam though, higher ratio will make more power.
Drag cars usually only have 1.52's ! But they make up for it on their Cam Lift which is absurdly high. This way makes for a stronger valvetrain. However, on a near stock LT1, even a mildly cammed one, I cant see the 1.7's hurting anything as long as their installed right. I personally will be going with Comp Pro Mags shortly, but then again I plan on going to a custom grind 383 stroker too so theres no need for me to get 1.7's that will be weaker in the long run for me. If your not planning on modding the hell out of it, 1.7's are fine. Expect between around 15RWHP.

Try to find me a rocker setup (1.5-"1.52") for an SB2 head. 1.7-1.9 is the norm depending on the track.
Drag Racing
Try to find me a long-arm rocker setup (1.5-1.52) for a GM Canted valve, 15/18º or Pro Action 14º race head.
The C5R shaft setups go 1.6-1.95:1
No, I think someone told you wrong. The trend is definitely going towards larger ratio rocker setups, even in OEM apps.

Like all the good advice given here I'll thrown in my .02 cents worth. Stock engine with 1.7s I'd say no way. If your doing a cam, lifters, springs, 1 piece pushrods, GM guideplates (recommend for stock LT1 heads over the brand names) ok sure, BUT ...keep in mind you are putting your valvetrain geometry in a strain. I'd recommen d you also get a $15.00 vlv spring install height checker to help you in determining the correct pushrod length. I was told to use stock length just hardened 1 piece Comps...so I did that...now a year later stepping down from 1.7s to 1.6/1.5 RR combo I'm curious whether my pushrod length is 50 to 100ths too short for the heavy duty Crower springs I just installed (which collapsed a CompR lifter).
The best thing is figure out what you want longterm and plan accordingly early on.
