So you don't want a SS but you want to know what options you could get on a Z28?

3.23s were standard on automatic SSs, you can get them on Z28s, most do come with the 3.23s already anyways. I don't know about the 6 speeds, anyone know if Z28s could get a hurst? I think 1LE suspension is offered on both cars.

Everything else is only offered on the SS.

I believe the differences are that the SS has 17" 10 spoke wheels, a ram air hood, a lower restriction muffler, a higher rear spoiler, and a performance suspension (not sure what that includes).

my '99 z28 has an optional power steering cooler, which I believe is standard on the SS.

....thanks a bunch. I see the options that are included with the SS option are some of my favorite 'goodies'! 10 spoke wheels, ram air hood, performance suspension.... No, its not that I didn't want an SS, its just that a 'non SS' was in the paper, they haven't returned my call, it books for $3 g's less than an SS and I wanted to know the difference between them...... Oh, its a 2000 Z28 Convertable with 33,000 miles, leather, 10 disk, It said non-smoker owned it. They were asking $17,900 OBO. It books for $14,750 wholesale & $17,245 Retail....... Thanks again, Bill.....

ok.. main options and differences...

SS:
Hood
spoiler
optional suspension upgrade
exhaust
17" wheels

Z28:
on this car the factory hurst shifter was available
all Z28s since 1998 I believe had power steering cooler standard
the 16" wheels are lighter (better if you are into drag)
the engine and its performance are the same so the only reason you should be wanting an SS over a Z is either for looks or handling and even the handling is marginal.. Do not get an SS thinking its faster.. Its not..

All the 98s-early 2000 had better suspension standard, the suspension could still be further upgraded then too. There were different exhuast upgrades and thats the basic stuff.

I searched it and power steering cooler was an option on Z28s. Here are the specifications of the different suspensions. By looking at the lowest suspension offered on the SS compared to 1LE; it's not too easy to call it marginal.

....Wow! Thanks again .... I love this site. The product knowledge available is fantastic, to say the least.... hummm, I was thinking about even though the upgrades on the SS are desirable & some of my favorites, considering the $ 3 g's more that the SS Books out for may be it would be a good idea to go with the 'non SS' and use the $3 g's difference to upgrade? For $3 g's you can get aftermarket hood {$500 to $700}, suspension {sway bar, shocks, springs, adj. Pan bar, sub frame con's, around $1000} exhaust {headers, $800}. That wouldn't cover any wheel upgrades but then I always seem to get tired of factory wheels anyway and upgrade. ... Just thinking out loud...... Thanks again, Bill....

Go with the SS brother! There are Z28's everywhere, but SS's are not so easily found. Just my 2 cents worth!
