Rear Suspension/Panhard Rod Question

I installed my BMR panhard rod last weekend. I noticed there is another rod/bar right above the panhard rod. Looks to be attached on one end to the panhard rod bracket as well. What does this rod/bar do? Tracking bar? Reason i am curious is because mine looks to be bent! Didnt know if this was something that would need changing or not? Thanks Kevin

...That's the upper pan hard bar, it just acts as a support for the lower pan hard...if it's bent replace it ...but I can't see any reason how it would bend

Oh ok thanks for the info.

Yes that is a good question. The main reason i replaced the panhard rod in the first place was because it was bent as well.
It wasnt until i replaced it and noticed the "upper" panhard rod, and it was bent too. Eventhough not as bad as the lower.
So where would i find the upper panhard rod at? All i have seen as far as aftermarket has been the lower panhard rod.
Thanks Kevin

Hmmm.... that car must have smacked a curb sideways...

Anyway, yes, the OE unit may be the only one out there (not sure). It's a brace for the bracket for the actual panhard bar.

Kevin,Are you talking about it looks bent on passenger side of bar just below the exhaust crossover? Cuz thats what I got too its normal just been tweaked a little on right end of the bar to not interfere w/ exhaust "I think" could be another reason.
But since your lower was bent you may have some different bent spot on upper. But its where I descibed your prob. OK

I respectfully disagree with sleeperZragtop, there is an aftermarket upper panhard bar brace available, here is the sight:

Hope this helps you out in some way.

The uppper rod is supposed to be bent right where is goes under the exhaust so I can clear it. If it is bent anywhere else, it should be replaced.
