New to the LS1 world
Hey guys,
I just got a 2002 Trans Am. I love this car. I really didnt want to get into another car payment but since my Z28 is in pieces it was a necessity. I can say this though, it feels a lot stronger than my 97 LT1.
Can you guys fill me in on the car? What are the things I have to look out for as far as problems that arise? Also Im looking at my first mod. Im thinking a lid of some sort. Is there a real difference between the companies that offer a lid?
Eventually I want to go with a turbo and Im looking at some of the offerings out there. Any LS1 guys here boosting? How much can these motors take before breaking?
Sorry about all the questions but Im still trying to calm myself down.

Congrats on the new car. I did the same thing about a year ago and I will never regret it. As far as lid's go I can't tell you much about them but my first mod was the K&N FIPK and I think it was worth the extra money just for the look, sound and throttle response I got but a lid is a hell of alot cheaper and just as good from what I have read. Good Luck

all the lids and what not will give you basicly the same hp. as far as boosting i have seen ls1's run 9# on the stock engine for wuite a while but i wouldn't use more then 7 if you want it to last.

All the lids are pretty much the same. Just go with the cheapest one really, unless you have a preference.
As far as boosting these engines, not many people do it. They aren't really meant for it like some other engines. Of course it can be done, and it's even better with a rebuilt/forged engine too. Most boost I hear of people running is 6-7.

Oh, and consider a good set of Sub-Frames and a STB. That will make your car corner like it's on rails and also eliminate most of your squeaks and rattles.
