MY caliper came loose while driving!!

I was just driving normal, nothing crazy and then i start to hear like im draging something along......i thought it would come out so i kept driving but it just got louder and louder....i pulled over to see if i was draging anything under the car, but i didnt see anything so i kept going..then it got really bad and i thought my torque arm was busted, then i realized when i was braking my car would shake like a Bit%&...i wasnt far from my house so i just wanted to get it home and fix whatever was wrong..THank God i have a m6 cause i used that to downshift to slow me down the whole way home ( had to blow stop signs and alot of "orange lights" anyways i got home and looked at my caliper..the top bolt that kept it on, wasnt there and the outside and inside of the caliper had chunks of metal taken out..also the inside of my rims were scratched, not too bad. my question is has this happend to anyone else...?? what caused the bolt to just fall off? slotted rotors were put on it like 8 months ago...i dont think it would take that long for a bolt to come out..

I guess it can happen if you don't tighten the bolts properly. It can take 8 days or 8 months, it doesn't matter. Get a new bolt, tighten it properly and you are good to go. Just check everything out visually, too, of course.

The same happened to me several years back when I had just bought a few years old Volvo 760 Turbo STW.

Funny thing was that the salesman (Volvo dealer) was bragging how they did a complete brake job on it etc. before putting it for sale.

Well..., the salesguy definetely got an earful from me.
