Hello,

Sorry to bother you guys in LS1 tech. Here's my question right now. I currently have an LT1 with an LT4 top end big cam,LT4 AFR heads a bunch of custom work etc. etc. The problem is my block needs to be pulled and redone. I haven't driven the car in years it's been sitting in my garage and now I'm ready to get back to it.

Time has passed and so has technology. It's going to costs $$$ to get my LT1/4 up to par. When ever I sit down and do the numbers it would cost me just as much to grab an LSX and get even more power. I know the LTX is yester year I'm not afraid to admit that. I had my time running the LTX I loved it but it has it's problems (hence why I need to pull my block).

I've been looking at the 376 and the 454 crates from GM. If I got the 376 I'd have the heads worked or swap em out for AFR's and finish it off with a nice intake and boost it. If I spend a little more money I could go with the 454, tune it a bit and just go for the All motor thing.

The only problem I see with the 454 is that I can't seem to find a solid answer on the longevity of this motor. I want to build a fast car that is also reliable as a daily drive (although I don't plan to drive it daily). I just want good reliability and dependability. A car I can run at the track or street on the weekends and still use to go to work,get groceries, or take a nice girl out to the movies with. Does the GM 454LSX still have that kind of reliability?

It's hard to get info about the reliability of this motor because so many people seem to stray away from it because of it's price. I don't plan to get rid of my Z28 unless I'm dead so no no wait (I think I requested to be buried in it). So I don't mind the investment.

But could you guys maybe shine some light on me as to what your opinions are of that crate motor.

just go to the junk yard and pull a ls2 6l out of a vette or gto,bore 30 over,good heads and cam and call it a day.That would cost way less and still get you in the hp range you are wanting.454 cost a lot and require a lot of upgrades to the trans suspen and rear.But far as reliable a engine is only as good as you treat it.stay on it a lot and it will not last.
