Hypertech Power ProgrammerIII & and BBk headers advice
I would what I believe to be a really good deal on a power programmer and set of shorty headers and I would like your guys opinion on the programmer and if its worth it. I talked him down to $160, as well a set of BBk ceramic coat shorty headers for $160 as well.
I reall am curious what kinda things I should expect from the programmer thanks

Re: Hypertech Power ProgrammerIII & and BBk headers advice
The programmer is a waste of money and from what I have heard shorty headers and a very small improvement over the stock manifolds because the manifolds flow pretty good for stock. The programmer is only good for using it with a hypertech thermostat and to change shift points.

The headers will yield very little gain, if any. Maybe 5hp on the older 98-00 cars. The 2001+ LS1s got improved exhaust manifolds - you'll likely see no gain over those.
The programmer tune is poor at best. You may notice an increase in power, maybe 10 or so. The programmer can also read DTCs, adjust for different tire sizes and gear ratios, adjust shift RPM (if applicable). That's about all it's really good for. Having a proper dyno tune performed will yield more power, and do it safer.

I used one several years ago when I first got my car for a gear swap, fan temps and bumped up the line pressure a little - never tried the tune. Mine didn't have the capability to read codes, guess it depends on the model, maybe the later ones do. If you decide to buy it anyway make sure it's been returned to stock - will only work on one car at a time. I'd skip on the shorty's too.

Slight correction. 98-99s had the tubular exhaust manifolds. 00-02s had the better cast iron manifolds.

Hypertech programmer is a waste of money/as well as shorty headers.....I bought my BBK long tubes with off road y pipe for 360$(chrome finish) and got a great mail order tune for 125$. Long tubes were brand new btw with free shipping.
