Post Storage

So Im deploying for a year with the army and leaving my car in storage. I want to get new springs, shocks etc when I get back and do a tune up. Before I left the battery was going to ****, cylinder 1 seemed to have bad compression, etc. so my questions to the experts:
1. What should I look for when I get back. before I start it up. change out, drain etc?
2. Is it necessary to have someone start it constantly? the bats dead and it would have to be like weekly and put on the insurance to drive.
3. after its running what should I look for to change or rebuild with the tune up? I just did spark plugs, I was thinking head gasket and???? it has 170k miles on it too

Re: Storage

I would put some gas stabilizer in it. It shouldn't hurt it too bad to sit for a year, though. Sometimes starting it up can hurt it more than help since you will get condensation that may not clear up. Just swap out all the fluids and put a new battery in it when you get back.

Re: Storage

Sounds good. I left it with very low fuel so I could top it off when I get back. and what fluids? oil, trans, diff...?
