Driving habits...and eating oil....
Well in my long quest to figure out why the hell my car kept eating oil, my buddy's ZO6 video helped...I guess if you buy a zo6 they give you this video about the car, but I noted that it said if the car was going to be raced to put in an extra quart of oil in the engine because under racing conditions the car eats oil....racing conditions, I sure as hell didn't get a video with my camaro, but anyone else know a little bit more?
One of the things I did note was I moved from a 5speed 4 bangin accord to a 6speed 8 bangin camaro, i think because i ran the accord at such high rpm's it eats oil, what type of driving habits do you guys have, low RPM, high rpm? Do the Auto Camaro's have the same problem?
Later,
Chris

Im 17 and I have a 2001 Z28. I think that speaks enough on its own for my driving habits. But yeah since my oil change in December, the low oil light has come on twice and I had to dump an extra quart in each time.

I've only had my car for 3000 miles. Changed the oil right away when I got it. It's "eaten" less than a quart in those miles.
Racing, well, we all know what that is. Normal driving for me is below 2k rpms.

Is this a common event for LS1s, burning oil that is?
Any reason why?
I do not own an a Chevy but a Ford. I am not here to try and hijack the thread or bash Chevy/GM because I like them as much as Ford. I also think the LS1 is a kick but motor.

Actually, I disagree with that statement !

The "problem" is that in order to reduce friction (and help the motor rev faster) every trick in the book was used, including reducing the tension of the piston rings. That kinda led to a propensity to consume oil, especially when run hard at high RPM's - like a 6 speed being revved, or a auto with a stall (my case ) , or any other similar conditions.
Here is an excellent article from Idaho Vette that discusses the motor.
FWIW, I burn about a 1/2 quart every 3K with a varied course of driving including some 120 mph blasts followed by a coast back down to saner speeds on the trip into work.
(Not every day, but fairly often. A guy's gotta do what a guy's car tells a guy to do !! )
Anyway, hope this helps, Sax1031.
I learn quite a bit from the StangNet myself.
