Post Compare LS-1 SS vs. LS-1 Vette

Not the LS-6 in the Z06 mind you. Just a LS-1 vette. I can almost always beat a stock LS-1 F-bod and I almost ran a stock LS-1 vette tonight and im wondering what woulda happenend?

1999 Chevrolet Corvette 0-60=4.8 1/4=13.3
1998 Chevrolet Camaro SS 0-60=5.2 1/4=13.6
Above are average track times of the two cars. I think the Corvette would have most likely won.

depends on driver of course.

Last time I had my LT1 at the track the local Vette club was in there and I kept beating the C5's. Finally one gets up to race me and he sprayed on me two times to nose ahead of me. It was hot and I do ice my car before racing so I was racing in colder air than they were. I also hooked better, had gears and more torque low down than they did. They were MPHing higher than me but my ET was quicker.

I might go today to the track in my LS1 to see what it will do.

The power outputs of the engines are roughly the same. The vette will probably have the traction advantage, and will likely be a little quicker.

I thought that Fbods have better traction because they have a bit more wieght. Altho the vette would accelerate a bit faster cuz its lighter.

Cool

It wasn't but a few weeks back that I ran a C5 convertible. I've got a 2001 WS6 T/A with a M6, baffles removed from the hood scoops and an air lid but everything else is bone stock. He and his wife/gf were in a black C5 vert which was also an M6. We both rolled out from the light and he nailed his and got a split second jump. I reeled him in in 1st and had about a 1/2 car length of daylight between us at the top of 2nd which where we both let off.

Not sure if his was a 97-00 LS1 or 01-02 LS1 but I thought the weight would be close since mine is a coupe and his was a convertible. Might just be the difference between the the 97-00 LS1 motor and the 01-02 but I was impressed with my car and very happy to see how it ran.

I used to run my dad's 99 vette, sorry to say but you would have gotten killed. I never once lost to any lt1, or even slightly modded ls1's. The only loss on my record is a modded twin turbo 300ZX, now that was an *** kickin.

Huh? What's done to this 99 vette? Too many factors to consider when attempting to make a judgement like that. I handed many LS1 Vette's their *** when I had only a few mods on my 97 Z. Find another forum to troll around in.

I have yet to lose to a C5 in an LS1 F-body, and have even passed a Z06 on a road course in a stock suspension '98 Z28. The two vehicles are very close in performance. The C5 is superior and quicker on the autox course though.

If your beating LS1 Vettes in a "slightly modded 97" you must have the factory Nitro. LMAO. Apparently, whoever you were racing had ZERO experience. LS1 Vettes will 13.2-13.3 all day long with traction.

Your right everyone is free to their opinion. My Nitro 97 Z went 13.550 with a Flowmaster Muffler (Just muffler/not a cat back) and Suncoast ram air system. It went 13.3 with those mods a ported maf and 3.73's. Added and underdrive pulley and went 13.2. Many members of this board have seen the car with those mods take money from LS1 Vettes on the street and at the track. Your right they must not have any experience. With the mods fastenuff has he should be running a hell of alot faster than 13.60 at 100. I imagine elevation in Illinois is playing a factor in his times. Regardless, if he was beating LS1 Fbodies all night he shouldn't have much problem with a stock LS1 Vette. I have yet to see or run an LS1 vette that ran significantly different times than an LS1 Fbody. Mods being equal of course.
