Buying car w/ 517hp LS2/L92 :D

Haven't been on the 'maro boards in a while, but I'm back!
With a question about whether the dyno results for the '94 RX-7 I'm buying (picking it up next week) seem a bit HIGH or if they're realistic:

Actually, now that I look at it I see that the plots are labeled as *engine* power and torque, that might explain it if they adjusted the rear wheel numbers...

The engine is an LS2 out of a Trailblazer SS, with L92 heads lightly shaved to achieve ~11.3:1 CR. LS3 intake. Cam is a street-oriented spec by Patrick G.

Anyway, thoughts and impressions on this build are welcomed!

I've been daily-driving a 2.0 liter S2000 for the past 4 1/2 years, it's gonna be good to get back into the V8 world

Those look like pretty good numbers especially that nice flat torque curve. What are the specs on the cam?

When it's a motor swap, you have to consider the possibility that the numbers came from an engine dyno, running no accessories and open headers. I've seen a stock LS1 with just headers pull well over 400hp in that configuration, so a heads/cam LS2 breaking 500 doesn't surprise me at all.

A '94 RX7 with an LS swap...

Post videos once you get it!

Something like .597" lift, 222 duration, to the best of the current owner's memory. I guess the duration must be at .050"? (I'm used to Datsun L6 cam specs, mine has a 310deg/.550" cam). Anyway, he specifically wanted a very streetable setup that still made good power up top, which is exactly what I want as well. Looks good to me...

It was done on a Mustang rw dyno:

Just seem like BIG numbers to be at the wheels. Similar intake/exhaust/cam mods to a 1.0 liter larger-displacement LS7. Found this on CorvetteForum.com:

Size: 99.0 KB"First is stock, second with bolt-ons: K&N, tune, 160 stat, Vette-Air charger, ported TB & ported intake, and American Racing headers, third is bolt-ons and QM-600 cam"

Logically, mine should look like something between the red and green curves, but scaled down by 6.0/7.0, which'd give ~405 "torques" (damn you, Jeremy Clarkson!) and ~445 horsepower(s).

Owner (good friend, straight-shooting dude, very reliable source) indicates that the 474 lb-ft/517hp are indeed rear wheel numbers, though.

Those numbers on a Mustang dyno are even more suspicious -- those usually rate substantially lower (10-20%) than Dynojets, which are responsible for most of the numbers we're familiar with around here.

Reading through that thread, I found that it's running 11.4:1 compression. I think that's your answer; a stock LS7 runs 11.0:1. LS2 is 10.9, LS3 is 10.7, LS6 is 10.5, and LS1 is 10.25:1. That's a pretty big bump in compression, and paired with the right cam and a great tune, I'll bet that's where the power is coming from.

Wow, and this is what I told my wife!

I'm picking up a '93 FD RX-7 tomorrow and even though it's on the same stock motor (rebuilt 30k miles ago) I'm going to set funds aside for an LS1 for a swap.

Doing a random search, came across my old thread here. Might as well update it
