Best Cold Air Intake for Z28's
I got a 02 automatic Z stock box MAF and TB, and was wantin opinions, fact, personal experiences, or whatever to see what the best cold air intake would be. was considering K&N but heard about SSRA? anyone got a lint for who makes that i wanna check that one out as well. but if theres a better one than those two i'd like to know. thank you guys again as always.

the SSRA blows the FTRA out of the water....
the FTRA is hardly even a ram air...more of just a cold air kit.
the SSRA actually has a low mounted scoop to pick up outside air at higher speeds and function as a real ram air (75mph +). and at slower speeds it functions as a typical CAI.
the designer of the SSRA is a member of the board, talked with him several times.
but for $200 the SSRA is a good deal, nice gains on the highway
the FTRA is hardly even a ram air...more of just a cold air kit.

Lids are fine, every lid performs the same. I've never used the FTRA or the SSRA, I immagine it would flow better....

ANYWHO, as far as the best lid and stuff goes, GMHTP mag did a Lid shoot out on Phil Hendra's 00 6spd Z(May '04 issue)...
Heres the results
Stock dyno the car out of 3 pulls were
314.9 HP/324.7 TQ
319.9 HP/333.2 TQ
321.3 HP/397.0 TQ
LG motorsports lid of 3 pulls the best was a 325.4 HP/336.3 TQ
MTI LID again 3 pulls best: 326.2 HP/336.2 TQ
QMP lid (Quarter mile performance...which used to be...h/o a little drunk after wiork here...ummm Oh yeah LS1motorsports.com): 330.2 HP/340.1 TQ
SLP lid: 331.1342.8 TQ
TSP lid (Texas speed & performance): 331.5 HP/341.6 TQ
Whisper Motorsports lid: 330.7 HP/342.8 TQ
Granatelli Motorsports lid: 330.6HP/345.8 TQ
Please keep in mind that each lid was given 3 dyno pulls to achieve its BEST perfomance, now the the ones that i posted were the highest HP numbers for each one. SOME pulled slightly higher on 1 of the 3 pulls Torque wise but the HP wasn't the highest so again keep in mind i picked the highest HP ratings for each of the 7 lids tested!!

I'm gonna say the best system would be an Ultra Z hood sealed to the airbox. I haven't done a below-box CAI because i don't want to spray mud on my filter and i'm keeping the space open for a tranny cooler.

A lid is a lid is a lid is a lid..... The SSRA or the FTRA seem like they would take in air easier due to the larger open air filter design...
