Get some ported 243 heads if you are going to go through all that trouble. Not much gain just by swapping stock castings. The Livernois guys were seeing like 50 hp from just their ported 243 heads.

Re: 241 to 243 heads....

my 243's bolted right in. the only difference is a better flow design. (vettes have special exhaust hollow valve stems i think) going off memory stk heads flow approx 230 cfm vs ls6 / 243's flow 265 cfm. after a good porting stk aprox 290 cfm vs ls6 / 243's aprox 320 cfm. hope that helps cheers!

Re: 241 to 243 heads....

i went too mild w the 2002 ls6 cam (runs & drives like stock / no lope). the general middle of the road best cam is the tr224. if i upgrade im thinking about a 565 lift, 224/228 duration cam. if your car is an auto trans (A4) you will probably need a stall converter to help the idle. stick shift cars no problem. there are plenty of monster cams out there like the magic stick or T-rex but you can run into drivability issues going that big, not to mention you need the best valve springs. cheers & goodluck!

Re: 241 to 243 heads....

just to clarify, the ls6 had the best version of the 243 casting, and it came with hollow intake and sodium filled exhaust valves. a cheaper option is to get them off an ls2, which i believe is basically the same head, but without the fancy valves. they also came on some 5.3 truck engines, but i think they had smaller valves or something like that

Re: 241 to 243 heads....

only thing diff are bigger ports. everything bolts up... since you have ls6 intake... you already have LS6 cross over coolant lines. you'll see about 15-20hp better on dyno... i did a 243 and 02-04 zo6 cam upgrade and made 353whp and 360wtq with LS1 intake and stock exhaust manifolds... I just got a FAST 78 intake... can't wait to get it back on the dyno now!
