1 quick converter ?. please help

I have one quick ?. Ive read around a little bit on converters for my 01 ss. I believe I am going wiht the ss3600. Plannin on all the bolt ons on the car nothing real major. Maybe eventually heads/cam but that will be down the road. Should I go with a higher stall converter? Is the ss a good line for what i want. The car is not daily drivin. I have a truck for that. I do drive the car often but do not have to depend on it. Please give me ur imput on what will be best for me performance and reliability. Which converter am i gonna enjoy most. Thanks everyone

Go as high as you like..... for a 3600 you might want 3.73's to hit that stall quicker

thanks

Id like to go as high as I can but I still want it to be streetable. I hear of ppl going with a 4400 but I dont know if thats driveable. If it is still driveable I would go real high but I dont want it to be a chore to drive the car. thanks for the reply. any more help would be great

You need to take care in getting too high of a stall. If you have the stock cam and it's power profile you will loose ET with anything higher than a 3800 or so with the stock gears. If your stall is too high then your rpms after the shifts are well above your power peak and the car just won't pull.
Point in case. A guy at the track yesterday with a bolt on car and a vig 4000 was running consistant 12.6s at 109+mph. A buddy of his, that came with him, had all of the same mods with a vig 3200 and ran several 12.38s at 109+mph. I was running 12.2s at 110+ with a stock engine and a Yank ST3800.
Now if you are going to run some steep gearing say 4.10 or 4.56s you need to increase the stall to make up for the car moving easier.

TC streetability is very subjective and you usually don't know if you like it till you try it. I love my SY3500. Just right so far. I started with a 2600 before that, and it wasn't enough for me. I could even see myself going higher in the future. Though I think the 3500 is very good allround.

Going above 4000 would be considered optimal for the LS1 engine based on its power output if pure racing is your goal. However, I have never driven a car with a stall that high, so I can't comment on drivability - I'd want to try a stall that high first personally before buying. But thats just me.
